Here more reasons to make Adare Manor your next vacation destination:
A Deep Dive Into History
Adare Manor dates to 1537 and a grant of land from England’s King Edward VI to the Earl of Desmond. The land passed from family to family for the next two hundred years. The first structure was likely built by the Earl of Quin in the last part of the seventeenth century. The bulk of the manor was completed in the latter part of the eighteenth century.
The second Earl of Dunraven, who suffered from poor health and had to remain indoors for much of his time, transformed the Georgian home into a Tudor revival mansion. Throughout the 19th century several architects turned the mansion into a grand manor home with custom woodwork and elegant details such as stained glass windows, wood carvings, parapets and colonnades.
In 1987 the manor was purchased by Thomas Kane and renovations culminated in the Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort.
A Sportsman’s Castle
Although the world-class hotel is renowned for its golf facilities at the Adare Golf Club, Adare Manor also offers many other sporting activities. If you want to experience the ancient thrill of falconry, the hotel offers that experience. You can also shoot clay pigeons, opt for archery, or go trout fishing on the River Maigue. The extensive grounds and gardens also mean great walking trails abound. You can even take a “Hawk Walk” through the woodlands area of the estate.
Other sporting amenities include cycling, a fitness center, and a pool in the spa area.
Dining Like Royalty
Adare Manor boasts a number of dining options. The Carriage House is a 5 minute walk from the main hotel, and offers casual dining to hotel guests. In the evening it’s used as an event space.
The Oak Room offers gourmet fine dining and an extensive wine list. Offerings include fish from the River Maigue. Furnishings are lavish and views are magnificent. For more casual, simple dining, the Drawing Room offers a less extensive menu but also doesn’t require formal dress, and there’s a bar, The Tack Room.
